Nawab Sahib primarily works on resolving issues that are essential for the survival of wildlife species. A key area of his current focus is controlling the escalating conflict between humans and wildlife, particularly in light of the recent surge in tiger deaths due to electrocution and revenge killings. To combat these issues, he established an NGO, namely, Wildlife Tranqui Force, in collaboration with esteemed individuals such as Sri Hitesh Malhotra, former Head of Forest Force of undivided Andhra Pradesh, and Dr. M. Navin Kumar, one of India’s senior most veterinarian. The NGO, recognized by the government, is the only organization in India with expertise in capture as well as elimination of dangerous animals. However, tranquilization is always prioritized as it represents a more humane approach to resolving conflict situations. In recognition of his exceptional work in wildlife conflict resolution, the District Collector of Vaishali, Bihar, honored Nawab Sahib with a lifetime achievement award for his efforts in mitigating crop damage caused by wild animals.
Crux of Man Animal conflict in INDIA
Asiatic elephant, leopards, blue bull, wild boar have grown far beyond the carrying capacity of our forest in India as seen in the graph. In the corresponding period from 1980 till date, the human population has increased by more than 100%. similarly Asiatic elephant numbers has also gone up 100%.
On the other hand, the forest cover has reduced. Moreover, Government Controlled forests are overridden by noxious weeds like lantana and Parthenium forcing wildlife to stray out of the government controlled forest into the human habitation triggering man-animal conflict and a wave of anti-wildlife tirade is triggered off from angry farmers and forest dwellers.
Tigers too are facing onslaught. Every adult tiger needs to kill once a week. That means, if we have 2000 tigers in the country, we need 1,04,000/- spotted deer and other prey base annually which is lacking, even in rich and protected National parks. This is forcing tigers to stray out of the forests, attacking cattle and humans, snow balling man-animal conflict outside the forests
Therefore, our tigers are straying out of their protected area into human habitation, killing cattle and humans who are brazenly poisoning our precious tigers.
This in my opinion is the crux of man animal conflict in our country.
